Holiday is over, it’s now time to head back to work. Everyone is packed already, car is loaded up and checked for the long journey.
3:30 am we left Mandurah heading back to Kalgoorlie. We needed that early start so I can have a rest before getting back to work the next day. Also being out early we will beat the traffic on the highway.
When you are the one driving you have to enjoy the drive so you won’t get bored easy. The drive from Mandurah to Kalgoorlie is not as boring because you will see how the scenery changes.
Driving out of Mandurah, you will see suburban areas, the normal suburbs. Then you get to the Perth Hills which is a good drive going up and down the hills. You will see forest, tall trees and while driving I could smell the different aroma or scents coming from the houses chimneys. It’s only spring and it is still cold specially in the morning and the fireplace is still the cheapest way of heating a whole house.
The Perth Hills
Driving down the hills and getting near the plains the sun starts to come out. Everybody was now awake and enjoying the sunrise and my missus start taking photos while we drive.
The Green and Gold Fields
After the hills you get to the plains, the “wheat belt” as they call it. Driving through here is also very good especially in spring time when the canola’s are in full bloom and wheats are green and gold. While driving and admiring the colours of the field I thought maybe that is how the country Australia took their theme from “The Green and Gold”.
First Rest Stop
We stopped at our normal rest stop to stretch and have a toilet break. This is the town of Meckering. The town itself have a great story to tell which I will cover that on the next article. This is normally our first stop for a break when we are going to Kalgoorlie and our last when we go to Perth from Kalgoorlie. This is actually the missus’ choice because she said the toilet is cleaner than the others. With the boys don’t really matter about toilets because we can just pull over to the side and go to the bush and relieve ourselves (LOL). There is a petrol station here as well if you want to fill up or buy some snacks and drink. There is also a café but still close when we got there because it was still too early.
After a stretch and all the ladies done their toilet break, off we drive again.
I wanted to keep driving if I’m not too tired and minimise stops to get to where we going quicker but I had to stop at this town called Cunderdin just to take a photo of this restaurant named “ETTAMOGAH”. It is a cartoonish building that is why it fascinated me and when I did a research on it, it was taken from a cartoon series.
Anyway, off we go again and after a few hours driving we got to Southern Cross. Another toilet break and time for breakfast. Whenever we are stopping over at Southern Cross, we prefer the BP petrol station because they have better coffee.
After the hot cappuccino and warm ham and cheese sandwich, off I drive again. From here, Southern Cross to Kalgoorlie is the most boring drive ever. This is the time I have someone awake to talk with other wise I nod off which you can’t afford to do while driving and doing a speed of 110 KPH. It is a boring drive because it is about 2 hours before you get to the next town. A packet of spicy jerky is pretty nice keeps you awake chewing haha.
Then we have arrived, Kalgoorlie here we are again. After that long hours drive it is nice to finally arrived safely.
